چکیده
Abstract In this review we focus on the fundamental theory of magnetohydrodynamic reconnection, together with applications to understanding a wide range dynamic processes in solar corona, such as flares, jets, coronal mass ejections, wind and heating. We summarise only briefly related topics collisionless non-thermal particle acceleration, reconnection systems other than corona. introduce several preliminary that are necessary before subtleties can be fully described: these include null points (Sects. 2.1–2.2), topological geometrical features separatrices, separators quasi-separatrix layers 2.3, 2.6), conservation magnetic flux field lines (Sect. 3), helicity 4.6). Properties of magnetic reconnection in MHD turbulence
Numerical simulations of two-dimensional Magnetohydrodynamic (2D MHD) turbulence reveal the presence of a huge number of sites where magnetic reconnection locally occurs. The properties of this ensemble of reconnection events, that are spontaneously generated by turbulence, have been studied. The associated reconnection rates, computed as the electric field at the neutral points, are broadly di...
متن کاملMHD simulation of magnetic reconnection and magnetic substorms
Magnetic reconnection based on the resistive and Hall MHD equations are reviewed. It is found from both theory and simulation that the impulsive reconnection can be achieved in the resistive and Hall MHD by imposing suitable boundary conditions. All results from resistive and Hall MHD indicate that reconnection processes contain two phases: slow growth phase and impulsive phase, and between the...
متن کاملMagnetic reconnection: from MHD to QED
The paper examines the prospects of using laser plasmas for studying novel regimes of the magnetic field line reconnection and charged particle acceleration. Basic features of plasma dynamics in the three-dimensional configurations relevant to the formation of current sheets in a plasma are addressed by analyzing exact self-similar solutions of the magneto-hydrodynamics and electron magneto-hyd...
متن کاملOn the characterization of magnetic reconnection in global MHD simulations
The conventional definition of reconnection rate as the electric field parallel to an x-line is problematic in global MHD simulations for several reasons: the x-line itself may be hard to find in a non-trivial geometry such as at the magnetopause, and the lack of realistic resistivity modelling leaves us without reliable non-convective electric field. In this article we describe reconnection ch...
متن کاملTwo-Fluid MHD Simulations of Relativistic Magnetic Reconnection
We investigate the large scale evolution of a relativistic magnetic reconnection in an electron-positron pair plasma by a relativistic two-fluid magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) code. We introduce an inter-species friction force as an effective resistivity to dissipate magnetic fields. We demonstrate that magnetic reconnection successfully occurs in our two-fluid system, and that it involves Petschek-...
